I was surfing the Net, reading a little something about American history and thought I should write about the greatest U.S. presidents of all time, I think it is nice to remember them from time to time.

Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865).

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States for four years beginning from 1861. He was the first president who also was the representative of Republican Party. He joined the Republican Party in 1856. He is known as the one who had been with American people through the Civil War and freed American slaves. So he became a hero of American nation. He grew up in a family of a poor farmer and went to school only for a year but was a thorough student: he still learned how to read and write. When he grew up, he went or self-education passed all the exams and became a lawyer. Lincoln always hated the fact that people were used as slaves.

Lincoln was killed in the theater, in 1865. The killer unknown.

George Washington (1732 – 1799).

George Washington was the first president of the States. He was a Founding Father of the United States (one of them, to be exact). He was born in a family of a landlord and got education at home. He took part in was actions against Indians and French and even was captured once. In 1775 he became a commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the time of the American Revolutionary War.

He was elected in 1789. George Washington created a foundation of political patterns of the United States of America. As the first president he tried to create political machinery that would work according the rules that were stated by American Revolution.

Washington died two years after he left the position of the president – in 1799. Reason of death – pneumonia.
