I was surfing the Net, reading a little something about American history and thought I should write about the greatest U.S. presidents of all time, I think it is nice to remember them from time to time.

Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865).

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States for four years beginning from 1861. He was the first president who also was the representative of Republican Party. He joined the Republican Party in 1856. He is known as the one who had been with American people through the Civil War and freed American slaves. So he became a hero of American nation. He grew up in a family of a poor farmer and went to school only for a year but was a thorough student: he still learned how to read and write. When he grew up, he went or self-education passed all the exams and became a lawyer. Lincoln always hated the fact that people were used as slaves.

All about Jogging.

One of the easiest and the most pleasant ways to lose weight and become fit is jogging. It seems like a perfect idea and it seems like you are not going to need any special training or additional information to do it right. But this is not true. Before you start jogging you need to take into account a couple of very important things, otherwise you will do yourself more harm than good.

First of all you need to remember that people suffering from all kinds of angina or tachycardia are not supposed to be running. Besides, it is a big stress for your locomotor system as every time your feet hit the ground your whole body gets kind of pushed. Running in a gym has a lot of disadvantages. It seems like there is no difference between jogging in a gym and in the street, except that it is more convenient to do it in a gym. But there is a huge difference: when you run and your body doesn’t move ahead it is even bigger stress for bones and joints. Professionals call it “lazy jogging”. Besides, as your body stays on the same spot, it messes with your weight distribution and causes micro-breaks in your muscles.

After the release of the game Angry Birds the whole world was divided into two parts: those who play it and those who never play anything.

The creator of the game, Peter Vesterbacka is among “100 most influential people in the world” according to TIME magazine. He is responsible for development and marketing of ‘Angry Birds’ brand. During the last two years the game was downloaded 500 million times. It’s easy to explain the reasons of such popularity. You won’t find any philosophical meaning in this game: this is just a confrontation of birds and pigs. If you ponder over the meaning of the game name, the answer is simple. Birds are angry because pigs stole their food and took their homes, that’s why the birds protect their supplies. That’s it. And it hooks you up. Just two species that bump each other off.

In the modern democratic society the human rights are claimed to be the supreme value and they are protected in all possible ways. This principle is valid also for the judicial system. People who have committed various crimes should not be deprived of the essential human rights even when serving their sentence. Sometimes, however, the conditions of imprisonment look even better than the life of average citizens. Here is the list of prisons where every convict will feel completely at home.

Vestre Fangsel in Copenhagen, Denmark, comes the first. It is one of the oldest prisons in Denmark and there no less than five-year sentence is served. However, due to the exclusive conditions of this place these five or more years can become pretty pleasant ones. The prison is equipped with fitness center, library, medical facility and even a shop where you can buy practically everything except alcohol. It is also possible to receive proper course of education while serving the sentence. The guards bear no weapon. The policy of the government is not to degrade the prisoners and make them suffer as it is done in lots of other countries, but to deprive them of liberty which is viewed as the measure of compulsory treatment. The level of crime in Denmark proves that this method actually works.

It is prestigious to have personal transport, but in big cities it is not always convenient to go by car due to the high density of traffic and jams. Public transport may bring you to your destination faster and with less effort, and subway is the fastest way to achieve this result.

In urbane culture subway plays a significant role, no wonder that sometimes it is viewed like an art object. Of course, the main purpose of subway is to transport passengers from one place to another, but as huge crowds pass the subway stops every day the architects thought that it would be a good idea to decorate underground. While walking along long subway halls you can admire the exhibition of art works or learn the history of the place as some subway stops are turned into the copy of museums. There are subways stops situated all around the world which look like real masterpieces. Here are only some of them.

It is generally considered that artists are not likely to lead a healthy way of living. These people will prove you this common conviction to be just a fallacy.

  • Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a professional athlete and participated in more than ten matches for Marylebon Cricket Club. In 1990 at the age of forty-one he managed to win the play against William Gilbert Grace, the most famous cricket player ever. That fact was later mentioned in the poem “A Reminiscence of Cricket”.

Being an amateur boxer Arthur Conan Doyle didn’t reach any significant success on the ring, but his skills helped him in his everyday life. During his practice on a ship he had to be physically strong and have a lot of stamina.
